Layli Tanara
Layli is a fourth-year student in Biomedical Science, completing her NSERC-USRA project this summer. Layli completed her Honours project in the Adamo Lab. Her scientific interests lie in the realm of reproductive health, and she has a tremendous liking for physical activity - especially running and tennis! Her project surrounds the effects of exercise on the expression of an angiogenic growth factor in the placenta, FGF2. Layli loves to play piano and learn new languages!

Madeeha Shaikh
​Madeeha is a second-year student studying Biomedical Sciences at the University of Ottawa and joined the Adamo Lab in May 2021. She is currently completing her NSERC-USRA project this summer. Madeeha is passionate about healthy active living and learning about maternal health, which drew her to the group. She volunteers in the wet lab and is also working on a project that explores the sociodemographic factors associated with internalized weight bias during pregnancy. In her free time, she enjoys fitness, painting, kayaking, and spending time with her friends and family.

Mohamed Aboudlal

Mohamed is a second-year student completing a Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics with an Emphasis on Biophysical Science. He is currently completing his NSERC-USRA project this summer. Mohamed is extremely passionate about healthy living and healthcare equity, which led him to join the Adamo Lab in May 2021 to further his understanding on the inequities experienced in maternal and female healthcare. His main focuses are on maternal health with the SmartMoms project and female physiological health with the IDEaS project, as well as helping out in the wet lab. Outside of the lab, Mohamed enjoys exercise and being involved in his community.

​Portia Cooper

Portia is a fourth-year University of Ottawa student completing a Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics. This summer, she is engaged in a NSERC-USRA project. Her scientific interests include nutrition, exercise, and reproductive physiology. Portia is currently evaluating the impact of physical activity on placental lipid storage. Outside of the lab, Portia enjoys playing varsity volleyball and participating in a multitude of outdoor activities.

Simon Desjardins

Currently in his second-year, Simon occupies in the Computer Science field and is working in relation with the Adamo Lab Team for his summer 2022 Coop Term. He's predominantly helping with the SmartMoms team as the primary engineer working on the Back-end and Front-end of the application while helping with other SmartMoms tasks in harmony. Simon is exuberant to learn more about the Full-stack development in a production environment and is looking forward to working in a formal research team.
